Download Redsn0w 0.9.9 b9 to Jailbreak 5.0.1 – With New Features

Today the iPhone -Dev Team just launched the most downloaded jailbreak tool Redsn0w 0.9.9 b9 for Windows and Mac OS X with many new features.

New features added in this release is makes you able to downgraded your iOS 5.X based devices, sure with SHSH blobs saved.

This is the complete information on the Redsn0w 0.9.9 b9:

  • native support for 5.0.1 (no need to point redsn0w at 5.0 IPSW or use command-line args).  Support automatically extends to all of redsn0w’s various functions: “Jailbreak”, “Just boot”, “Fetch blobs”, “Stitch blobs”, “Recovery Fix”
  • iBooks fixed in 5.0 and 5.0.1.  This is a targeted fix that doesn’t remove entire sandbox mechanism.  5.x users already using redsn0w “Just Boot” can just use the new version without redoing entire jailbreak again
  • 3GS old-bootrom owners can now create custom IPSWs without blobs
  • ultrasn0w compatability update (i.e. same baseband requirements) for 5.0.1 will be available on Cydia Monday
  • support for newer 8GB iPhone4 (which until now had problems with “Fetch blobs”).  Thanks to @JKjeepnJeff for loaning us one of these newer i4 units for testing!
  • allows Windows users (not just OS X users) to use the “Custom” button to create IPSWs without baseband updates
  • accommodates APTickets in 5.x (until next Apple countermove).  APTickets are crypto-verified before submitting to Cydia, just like the main blobs.  Cydia server support for sending back the APTickets is upcoming.  For now, use stitched IPSWs for 5.x.  Due to APTickets, stitched 5.x IPSWs now require user to start in “Pwned DFU” mode.
  • no 5.1 beta support at this time (major apps like Cydia are not yet compatible)
  • @pod2g has been doing a great job porting his 5.x untether…check his blog for updates!
  • Owners of newer 3GS iPhones must not flash the iPad baseband.  The iPad baseband will not work on 3GS iPhones built later than 2011 week 35.
  • Support added for stitching 4.x blobs to iPad2-GSM IPSWs.  Similar to @notcom’s TinyCFW but doesn’t require lots of RAM or a TSS-assisted restore. Won’t work for iPad2 5.x blobs (or iPhone4S at all) until a bootrom-level exploit is out
  • top line now shows whether (and where) a redsn0w update is available, or if the version being run is the latest.  Uses DNS TXT record to alleviate any concerns about snooping

TinyCFW Allows You To Downgrade iPad 2 GSM / CDMA From iOS 5.0.1 To iOS 4.3.3

Notcom, the developer behind TinyUmbrella, today released a new tool called TinyCFW. What TinyCFW is that it prevents any errors and looping when downgrading iPad 2 GSM / CDMA or iPhone 4 GSM / CDMA from iOS 5.0.1 / 5.0 to iOS 4.3.3 to get their jailbreak.

The reason why many of you might want to downgrade their iPad 2 from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 4.3.3 is that because there’s no any jailbreak available for iPad 2 except Comex’s JailbreakMe 3.0 which only works on iOS 4.3.3. So if you’re one of those who accidentally updated to iOS 5.x, having iOS 4.3.3 SHSH blobs and want to downgrade back, TinyCFW makes this process easier by creating a custom firmware that will be able to be recognized by TinyUmbrella so that the device can be downgraded.

iPhone 4 reasons might want to downgrade back to iOS 4.3.3 so that they get untethered jailbreak which is only available on that version. However, pod2g is currently in the final steps to release an untethered jailbreak for all A4 devices so it’s better to wait.

What TinyCFW is:

  • It will modify an existing ipsw for an ipad2 gsm/cdma or iphone4 gsm/cdma
  • It WILL modify the ipsw TO UPDATE YOUR BASEBAND TO THE LATEST!
  • It will create an ipsw that you can use with TinyUmbrella AND iTunes to restore to a version of iOS that you have SHSHs for.
  • It is primarily for iPad2 with a baseband OR iPhone 4.

What TinyCFW is NOT:

  • A jailbreak
  • An unlock
  • A tool to protect your baseband.
  • A tool that will restore your device to any firmware
  • A tool for use with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPad, or iPhone 4S

Steps To Downgrade iPad 2 / iPhone 4 On iOS 5.0.1 To iOS 4.3.3

STEP 1: Download the required files below:

  • Download iOS 4.3.3 for iPad 2 or iPhone 4 from here.
  • Download TinyUmbrella (Windows / Mac)
  • Download TinyCFW (Windows – Jar)
  • Download iTunes from here.

STEP 2: Now start TinyCFW (note: you must have java installed and at least 2.5 GB of RAM). Once it opens, hit the top button and choose iOS 4.3.3 IPSW.

STEP 3: Now click on the second button so that TinyCFW will tell you the firmware and baseband versions.

STEP 4: Click on ‘Save Target IPSW’ then wait two minutes and you’ll get a file named:

<your original ipsw name>.bbupdate.ipsw

STEP 5: Now open Tinyumbrella and make iTunes look at Cydia’s Server from the “Advanced” options.

STEP 6: Plug your iPad 2, switch it off, and put it in DFU mode.

STEP 7: Finally open iTunes and select the custom firmware you created above to restore your iPad 2.

Once restored, you’ll get your iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.3. You can then head to JailbreakMe.com and start jailbreaking your device

Legally Installing Siri on iPhone 4 Significant Progress

Installing Siri on iPhone 4 has a significant progress. One of the bigger pieces of news coming today from the key-person of iPhone Dev-team, MuscleNerd. As most of you know that Apple released today a tweaked version of iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S only, with minor updates. But from hackers’ vision, iOS 5.0.1 new build has opened the horizon for porting Siri to iPhone 4 legally, let’s see what MuscleNerd tweeted.

MuscleNerd (1st tweet):

Huh…today’s 4S 5.0.1 bump (9A406) has wide open main fs

MuscleNerd (2nd tweet replying to someone) :

it’s the first public 4S ipsw where the main filesystem keys are obtainable (due to non-encrypted ramdisks)

MuscleNerd (3rd tweet to clarify) :

(to clarify: wide open for inspection from a Mac/PC…not wide open security wise 🙂 Can get Siri files and such without piracy)

MuscleNerd is announcing that the new decrypted ramdisks in iOS 5.0.1 new build will allow them to write simple script to legally extract the needed files to port Siri to iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G, 3G without the need of such jailbreak apps like H1siri that may violate your privacy.

The reason for this violation of privacy was that H1siri routed traffic through their own servers instead of Apple’s meaning they could use that connection to obtain user information. These new decrypted ramdisks will allow the legal port of siri on non-iPhone 4S devices, hence the traffic will still be routed to Apple servers which guarantee user privacy.

Stay tuned for more news as it happens!

New iOS 5.0.1 Build 9A406 Fixes “No SIM Card Installed” Or “Invalid SIM” Errors On iPhone 4S

Apple has release a new tweaked version of iOS 5.0.1. Although the surprise was that it was only made available to those who were newly updating to iOS 5.0.1 while those who updated before could not use this tweaked version.

Although Apple has faced a lot of criticism since they released iOS 5.0, it has managed tofight back to some extend by making the Siri port legally possible with the release of the new iOS 5.0.1.

Now according to a new Apple support document, it seems that the new tweaked version may have been designed to address SIM card related errors. As this issue is only affecting a small number of iPhone 4S users, Apple decided for a re-release rather than going for the next update which is likely to be for iOS 5.1.

Last month in Apple’s discussion forums, a number of users complained about the problems of “No Service” and “No SIM Card Installed” issues on their iPhone 4S.

This is from Apple’s new support document:

In certain situations, iPhone 4S may have difficulty recognizing a micro-SIM card, resulting in the following behaviors:

– “Invalid SIM” or “No SIM Card installed” alert appears intermittently.
– Status bar displays “No Service” or “Searching” in a location with good network coverage.

Apple has addressed the recommended solution which requires backing up and restoring the iPhone 4S, this would be possible after iTunes pulls down the new build 9A406 and installs it on the user’s device. After the system has been restored, the backup can be used to restore content and settings.

1. Back up your user content and settings using iTunes or iCloud.
2. Restore your iPhone 4S using iTunes.
3. After the process is complete, restore your user content and settings from your backup.
4. To confirm that you’ve successfully restored, verify that the version is now iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) in Settings > General > About

However, there have been mixed user reports. Some say that it has addressed this problem while others claim that they has seen no improvement. The ultimate result is still not clear and whether the it only addresses some part of the root cause of there might be some other problem. We have to wait for more users to try it to make a specific conclusion.

Untethered Jailbreak Works With iPhone 4 Running iOS 5.0.1

Here’s some more good news for jailbreakers, especially iPhone 4 users. pod2G has just confirmed that he has successfully performed an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4 running on iOS 5.0.1.

Couple of days back pod2G who has been a member of the Chronic Dev team had demoed an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 on an iPod touch but had hinted that it should work on iPhone 4.

However, few minutes back he has confirmed that he has managed to successfully perform an untethered jailbreak even on an iPhone 4 running on iOS 5.0.1:

Got an untethered iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. Feel free to update.

Of course, if you want to SIM unlock, don’t update using Apple’s original FW nor update OTA.

As pod2G has mentioned, please do not update your iOS 5.0.1 if you rely on a software method to unlock your iPhone.

pod2g hasn’t provided any ETA on when the tool to jailbreak iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1 (untethered) will be released to the public. It remains to be seen if pod2G’s untethered jailbreak will support iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

pod2g’s Jailbreak Might Work On iPhone 4S And iPad 2!!

A few days ago we showed a demo video of iOS 5 untethered jailbreak developed by the well known iPhone hacker pod2g. Today, we’ve been tipped that the jailbreak will possibly support iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. According to pod2g’s timeline, you might be able to jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 using his untethered jailbreak.

Jailbreak iPhone 4S 5.0.1

We have already known that MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team could jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5. MuscleNerd’s unreleased jailbreak is tethered only as pod2g said on his Twitter timeline a month ago.

Pod2g, after showing his video, has received a lot of questions about if this jailbreak will support iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5 / iOS 5.0.1.

Jailbreak iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Untethered Possibilty

Pod2g tweeted that he didn’t try his jailbreak on the iPhone 4S or iPad 2 because he doesn’t own the devices but this jailbreak will probably work on it.

Jailbreak iPad 2 5.0.1

He’s going to try the jailbreak later after finishing the testing on iOS 5.0.1 and other A4 and below-A4 devices like the iPhone 4 and the original iPad.

We’ll be back with more about iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak on iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1.

iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak COMPLETED!

Since early October, iOS 5 users have been patiently waiting for an untethered jailbreak for the iDevices. Here is some amazing news: The untethered has been achieved and implemented!

Check it out here.

The public release should be out very shortly and so far it will support all devices on iOS 5.0 (not 5.0.1 although pod2g says 5.0.1 will be untethered shortly after releasing the 5.0 untether) with the exception of the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

Stay tuned for more info as it happens!
