Unfortunately, Apple has just confirmed that they has no plans to bring Siri to older devices, Apple want to save this amazing feature for iPhone 4S users only. The news came from Apple in an email to developer Michael Steeber.
Michael Steeber, the founder of MSComputerVideos, contacted Apple asking about bringing Siri to older device but the answer was unexpected, since Siri working on iPhone 3GS as like iPhone 4S and also working on iPhone 4.
Here you are Apple’s reply:
Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue:Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices.
Well that’s currently, what will happen tomorrow we don’t know but hope to see Siri on older iDevices, stay turned for more.
Charlie Miller on Monday discovered that there is a flaw in the security system for iOS. The app was able to run arbitrary codes. All the codes that are necessary for the standards of Apple were submitted and they were not able to identify the bypass.
He had found a bug that would allow the app to break the restrictions and access any data on the iOS. Instead of just discovering it, Miller decided to test out this bug. Miller developed an app containing the restricted codes and later the app was accepted and was available at the App Store.
As intended the app was able to bypass the security breach and contact the remote computer which allowed it to send and receive personal data on the iOS. Furthermore it was also able to play sounds, make the phone vibrate. Unknown commands were being executed from the remote computer. The app was also able to reach out and affect other apps by shutting them down maliciously.
As soon as the news reached Apple; Miller’s developer license was revoked. “This letter serves as notice of termination of the iOS Developer Program License Agreement… between you and Apple,” the email read. “Effective immediately.”
As promised, the popular iPhone developer chpwn released a tweak named Firebreak to enable panorama camera mode in iOS 5 camera app. The hack based on editing some files inside the System folders to get panorama features in iOS 5. Firebreak makes the process much easier for normal users.
You’ll surely need to jailbreak your device so follow our guide posted here for tethered jailbreak and here for semi tethered then open Cydia and let it update. Once done, search for “Firebreak” then download and install it.
Once installed you’ll be able to use the feature directly from your camera iOS app. Just as below and seen before:
What are you waiting for? Firebreak is available for free under BigBoss repository in Cydia.
Well, here’s some good news for those guys who are waiting for Siri to come on their iDevices, today the developerRyan Petrich announced on his Twitter account that he had successfully ported Siri on iPhone 3GS and posted a video showing Siri running perfectly on iPhone 3GS, watch it after the jump:
This hack comes courtesy of developer Steven-Troughton Smith and chpwn, who recently demonstrated Siri running on the iPhone 4 and until now we can’t provide you with any ETA for it’s public release and of course that’s due to he illegal nature of the hackery, and the fact that it would take both piracy and an iPhone 4S jailbreak to release
We heard some interesting news two days ago about Apple testing Siri on the iPhone 4. iPhone 4 got their hopes up and are on pins and needles till Apple finishes its testing phases hoping they can finally get to talk to the intelligent voice assistant. Well, sorry to have gotten your hopes up. True Apple has been testing Siri on the iPhone 4 for quite some time now, but the part about iPhone 4 users getting it on their phone is just not going to happen.
As we said, Apple has long been testing Siri on the iPhone 4. In fact Apple employees have Siri on their phones. Apple has even left references in the latest iOS 5.0.1 beta for the iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch, but don`t forget Apple is a hardware selling company. It just doesn’t go around giving away stuff for free.
It`s true Siri is working great on iPhone 4, as smooth as it works on iPhone 4S, but that doesn’t mean you`ll get it. There is a reason why Siri is exclusive to iPhone 4S. First reason being for marketing. The iPhone 4S wouldn’t be so special if Siri, its most impressive feature, is in everybody`s hands.Besides, Apple spent hundreds of millions of dollars to get Siri where it is now; a reliable personal assistant.
One other reason is Siri`s future which we have been hearing a lot about, and that future just won`t work on A4 single-core processor.
In short, Apple is in fact testing Siri on iPhone 4, but iPhone 4 users won`t be getting it.
So, the only hope of getting Siri on older iDevices is an iPhone 4S jailbreak to legally port the Siri files to non-iPhone 4S devices.
2 hours ago, pod2g tweeted that he has found a bug that will untether iOS 5! He will be working on it to release it as soon as possible, however, as he says, it will not be anytime soon.
Hopefully the release will be sooner than we expect. Stay tuned!
Most of you believe that Apple made it’s Siri voice assistant feature exclusive to the iPhone 4S, but JailbreakNation doesn’t. According to the site, Apple is still considering Siri port on iPhone 4. The report says that there’s a big chance that we see Siri coming to older devices officially from Apple itself.
Apple is reportedly seeding a special build of iOS 5, which includes Siri, on some Apple employee’s iPhone 4 devices recently to test it out for a few days.
For those who don’t know, jailbreakers were able to get Siri ported on iPhone 4 and all other devices too. Moreover, they had the iPhone 4 and iPod touch connected to Apple servers.
Apple seeded iOS 5.0.1 to developers as a fix for the smart cover security flaw we wrote about a few posts ago. Fortunately, this updated firmware comes with another fix up its sleeve. The battery drain issue has also been addressed! Developers have reported that they noticed a significant increase in battery life.
This means that once 5.0.1 is released to the public, you can have way more fun with Siri!
Apple has revealed plans for a virtual SIM card in a new patent application entitled, ‘Wireless Network Authentication Apparatus and Methods’, reports Patently Apple.
In Apple’s patent FIGS. 5a and 5b shown below we see two exemplary embodiments of a hardware architecture (502, 504) for a “virtual” Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) according to the invention. Unlike prior art solutions, the exemplary embodiments of FIGS. 5a and 5b store a USIM 506 within an embedded Secure Element (SE) 508, which isn’t a removable card. The first illustrated embodiment 502 of the present invention (FIG. 5a) additionally includes a Near Field Communication (NFC) router 510.
A virtual SIM card will reportedly improve security and allow Apple to build an even thinner iPhone.
Back in 2010, reports first surfaced that Apple was working on a special integrated SIM Card to cut carriers out of the iPhone retail process. Later in the year, some European carriers warned Apple that they will refuse to subsidize the iPhone if Apple utilizes an embedded card. Following these threats it was reported that Apple gave up on its plans for the iPhone but may still be looking to build the embedded SIM into the iPad.
